Aswan is the most relaxing city in Egypt. Here, the Nile is wide and blue, with green islands, granite rocks and golden sand dunes on the banks. Life moves slowly, and the people are known for their warm welcome.
Take a boat to Philae Temple, the beautiful temple of the goddess Isis on its own island. See the Aswan High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk, which is still lying in the old granite quarry. Sail a felucca around Kitchener’s Island and its Botanical Garden, and visit a colorful Nubian village to enjoy tea, music and local food.
Aswan is the start or end point of Nile cruises to Luxor. It is also the gateway to the great temples of Abu Simbel, about 280 km to the south. Many travelers say Aswan is the place where they truly fall in love with Egypt.
